General description : The highly diversified activities of the Labour Commissionerate,West Bengal are carried out by the different offices of the Commissionerate.
The office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner is chiefly concerned with the administration of the enactments such as Industrial Dispute Act1947, The contact Labour( Regulation & abolition) Act 1970, The Payment of Gratuity Act1972, The Minimum Wages Act1948, The West Bengal Payment of Subsistence Allowance1969,The Motor Transport Workers1961, The Working Journalists & other Newspaper Employees ( Conditions of Service & Miscellaneous Provisions)Act1955, The Equal Remuneration Act1976, The Inter State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Services) Act1979 The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act986, The Payment of Wages Act1936, The West Bengal Shops and Establishments Act 1963, The Building & Other Construction Workers (RE & CS) Act96 etc.The functions of this office also include promotion of harmonious industrial relations and implementation of various social security schemes such as State Assisted Scheme of Provident Fund for Unorganised Workers in West Bengal (SASPFUW),West Bengal Transport Workers Social Security Scheme (WBTWSSS) and the beneficial schemes for the welfare of the building and other construction workers.
